Many internationally trained professionals face significant challenges integrating into Canada’s engineering and consulting industries. Barriers such as differences in practices, lack of local experience, unfamiliarity with the culture, and limited professional networks often hinder career progression.
The Pathway to Practice Program (P2P), sponsored by PINTER & Associates Ltd. (PINTER), is designed to address these challenges. Acting as a bridge for aspiring professionals, P2P provides hands-on learning, practical experience, cultural immersion, and professional networking opportunities. Participants develop and refine essential technical and professional skills while gaining valuable Canadian work experience. Successful completion of the program positions participants for success in their engineering or consulting careers.

P2P Program Schedule:
- Minimum Hours: 15 hours/week
- Program Duration: Three (3) months guaranteed, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs.
Participants are compensated, via short term employee contract, with hourly pay for their time and contributions during the program.

Objective #1 – Client Interactions and Solution Development

- Observe and attend client meetings alongside senior engineers and consultants, held remotely or in person.
- Take structured and detailed notes using provided templates.
- Learn how to identify and propose practical solutions tailored to client needs.
- Cultivate the ability to deliver client-centric solutions and navigate the complexities of real-world consulting projects.
Objective #2 – Project Support, Technical Collaboration, and Fieldwork
Objective Highlights:
- Assist senior professionals in preparing essential project documentation and casework.
- Learn to use project templates and examples effectively to meet quality standards.
- Participate in fieldwork activities, including site inspections, data collection, and project monitoring.
- Engage in site visits or team meetings to gain firsthand experience in applying engineering concepts to real-world challenges.
- Enhance technical expertise by contributing to project designs, conducting research, and collaborating on engineering solutions.

Eligibility Requirements for P2P
To qualify for the Pathway to Practice (P2P) Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Educational Background:
A degree or diploma in one of the following fields (or a closely related discipline):
- Environmental Engineering
- Municipal or Water Resources Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Geotechnical Engineering and Material Testing
Professional Experience:
Intermediate or senior-level experience (minimum of 4 years) in one of the following fields (or a closely related discipline):
- Environmental Engineering
- Municipal or Water Resources Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Climate Change Assessments
- Geotechnical Engineering and Material Testing
- Hydrogeology/Hydrology
- Energy Audits
Work Authorization:
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada (e.g., Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit).
Driver’s License:
- A valid Canadian driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge and experience in project management, engineering design, or fieldwork related to the listed disciplines.
- Familiarity with Canadian engineering standards and regulations is an asset but not mandatory
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to adapt to a multicultural and dynamic work environment.
Commitment:
- Availability to commit a minimum of 15 hours per week for the program’s 3-month duration.
- Willingness to participate in both in-office and fieldwork activities as required.
Professional Membership:
- Membership or eligibility for registration with a professional association (e.g., APEGS).
