Municipal
Water System Audits - Waterworks Assessments
Since the problems with the water systems at North Battleford, Saskatchewan and at Walkerton, Ontario the Regulators have installed new Acts, Regulations, Standards and Guidelines to govern waterworks. To compliment the new legislation there is a requirement for municipalities to undertake a waterworks assessment every five (5) years. To comply with this requirement and to assist our clients in developing a DUE DILIGENCE defense we have developed a Water System Audit to review and assess the entire water system from source to wastewater effluent disposal. The audit is an interactive process between ourselves and community personnel and is based on teamwork with the operators.
Upon completion of this audit we provide a report including a framework for an action plan based on our recommendations. It should be noted that this process is not a typical engineering inspection but a more positive experience based on the auditing process. PINTER & Associates Ltd. has assembled a team of specialists in water and wastewater treatment. Your water system will be assessed on the basis of the existing legislation and on current industry standards. Our audit has been reviewed by Saskatchewan Environment and has been accepted as meeting and in some cases exceeding their requirements.
Ozone & Slow Sand Filtration System Water Treatment Consultation
Ozone is a powerful oxidant that can be used for a variety of purposes in drinking water treatment, including taste and odour control, colour removal, coagulation and disinfection. In fact, ozone has a greater disinfection effectiveness against bacteria and viruses than chlorination. Ozone produces oxygenated by-products that are less toxic and less persistent than those created throughout the chlorination process. Additionally, ozone can be used to break down pesticides and toxic industrial chemicals.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) "under suitable circumstances, Slow Sand Filtration may be not only the cheapest and simplest but also the most efficient method of water treatment for the removal of viruses, cysts and spores. Its distinct advantages have been proven in practice over a long period, and it is chosen method of water purification in certain highly industrialized cities as well as in rural areas and in small communities.
Combining the treatment steps of ozonation and slow sand filtration can create a high-quality an biologically stable drinking water free of Giardia and Cryptosporidium at an affordable cost for small communities.
